Shower stall The bottom 3 feet of our shower got a leak and ruined the wallboard. I pulled the tile off and am going to replace the wallboard. My question is can I reuse the tiles if I try to clean them up somehow. If you can clean most of the cement off the backs and the grout off the edges, there is no reason you can't use the tiles again. The cement behind the tile will allow for the rough backs from the old cement. Tile
| Rotten wall behind bathroom tile My problem is that I have a window in my bathroom where my tub is. I just discovered that the wall where the window is in the tub area is totally rotten. The wall is tile but I would like to replace it with another surface. How can I do this, and with what material, and how do I prevent water leakage from the window into the wall? I really need to be thrifty on my cost. They sell (in home depot and large home supply stores) fiberglass bath tub wall boards. These can be relatively inexpensive to quite expensive and of course the quality goes up with the price, but you are looking at between 35 and 200 dollars for this option. To seal the window area, be sure you use good quality paint and caulk and opening and along the seams with tub and tile caulking. one more thing. Make sure you use drywall made for wet environments. Usually green, it is coated with a waxy surface to resist moisture. Replacing Cracked Bathroom Tiles
I have several cracked tiles around my bathroom tub so I decided to replace them. Well, not only did the tile come off but along with it chunks of cement. How do I fill in the space where the cement was without having to replace all of the tile in the bathtub area?
Pick out any loose cement and remove the grout around the tile. When you replace the tile, put on enough adhesive to make good contact with the cement, filling any void. Ceramic Tile Repair I have some warped ceramic tiles in my bath(about 12 of them).when i took them off the wallboard is cracked and crumbled.without replacing the wallboard, can i repair it? Once repaired, do i just apply adhesive and then the tiles or do i apply some type of "mud" to build up the surface again? I would not suggest attempting to make the repair without replacing the wallboard. It will only result in a week repair that will have to ...

Wiring a 3-way switch?
To use 2 switches to control the same fixture, you will need to use two 3-way switches. Run 2-wire cable from the fixture to the first switch. Between the switches you will need to run 3-wire (with ground) cable. (The white and red wires will be the switched wires.) ......

Q: My outlet suddenly stopped working, where do I start?

Leaky Faucets Fixing Benefits Besides being annoying, fixing a leaky faucet also saves you some money! Dripping water at one drip/second wastes 400 gallons of water in a year. If this is hot water, you are watching your money go down the drain! Fix With Washers Although a small drip may seem inconsequential , it will cost you money. Washers that will tighten your faucets and get rid of those leaks take only minutes to install. Pipes Sweating Pipes To eliminate sweating cold water pipes during the summer months, place foam pipe insulation over the pipes. The tubing keeps the warm humid air from condensing on the cold pipes. Bathroom Expenses The most expensive part of adding a new bathroom is "roughing in" the new plumbing. So keep in mind how far your pipes have to go. Quick Fix for Leaks For a quick fix on copper pipe, small leaks, keep handy an easy repair kit. All that is needed is a hose clamp and a small piece of firm rubber, such as small section of garden hose. Simply insert the rubber around the leak and clamp. It will save you from having to drain the system, until you have more time on your hands. The clamp and rubber section of hose helped me out of a few jams, especially if you don't have copper or solder on hand at the cabin, it could save the weekend! Remember: clamp and rubber, plus screwdriver.
Thanks to Ed Vatcher for this hint. Septic System Healthy Septic System There are a few basic rules for keeping your septic system healthy. - Have the tank pumped and cleaned every 2 to 5 years.
- Don't pour ANY solvents, chemicals or oils of ANY kind into the drain or toilet.
- Only flush toilet paper down the loo, no other paper or plastic products.
- Use bleach and other cleaners sparingly.
- NEVER dispose of grease, coffee grounds or popcorn in the sink.
Toilets Replacing A Toilet Seat Using an adjustable wrench you can remove the bolts that hold the toilet seat in place. If the bolts are metal and have corroded, try soaking with penetrating oil overnight. If the bolts will not budge, just saw off with a hacksaw. Coat the new bolts with some petroleum jelly to help in future removal! Drains Clogs In The Drains Most drain blockages occur because homeowners put materials into the drain, that should never go there. Often liquid materials are put "down the drain", and then solidify and cause clogging. Remember to just let materials harden, then place in trash... |
