Cleaning Your Deck

Even brand new wood can quickly become gray and dirty from exposure to sun, dirt and rain. A quick The Flood Company - Can Do Wood Care System remedy to restore the wood’s natural color is to use Flood Dekswood® Deck Cleaner and Brightener. Unlike bleach, which can harm the wood, the detergents in Dekswood remove surface and ground-in dirt while the ingredients work gently with the wood fibers to remove the gray and revive the wood’s natural beauty. Dekswood also removes unsightly nail head stains which can detract from your deck’s overall appearance.

What You Need:

  • Dekswood Deck Cleaner and Brightener
  • An empty five-gallon container
  • Latex gloves
  • A stiff bristle brush (not wire) or a roller
  • A garden hose with a fresh supply of clean tap water
  • Soap and water

Doing The Job: The Flood Company - Can Do Wood Care System

  1. Make sure the deck is free from any loose debris.
  2. Wet down the surface with a garden hose.
  3. Mix one gallon of the cleaner with four gallons of water. For extremely dirty wood, add less water.
  4. Apply the cleaning solution thoroughly using a stiff bristle brush or a roller. If you are hand-brushing your deck, remember to wear latex gloves. Do not allow the deck to dry during the cleaning process.
  5. Allow the cleaning solution to work for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Rinse off the remaining cleaning solution thoroughly with clean water and allow wood to dry at least two days.
  7. Clean tools with soap and water.
