Ceiling Tips

Plaster

Stop Drying Out!

If you are not used to working with plaster, you may find that it dries out quickly! To help, add a little household vinegar to the plaster. You will then be able to work with it longer, until your speed increases!

Nails In Plaster

To avoid splitting a plaster wall when driving a nail into it, try heating up the nail first. The hot nail will go through the plaster easier and without any cracks!
Or:
Before driving a nail into plaster, make an "X" of scotch tape and your nail has a better chance of not splitting the plaster.

Cleaning of Ceiling

How to clean????Very carefully!!!Use a cellulose sponge and generously apply cleaning solution. Let set for several minutes to work on dirt, then dry and polish with a terry towel. Blot deep indentations carefully!

Stains

Get Rid Of Water Stains

  • For a slight water stain try blotting with bleach-one part chlorine bleach to 5 parts water- if your ceiling is white!
  • If you have a stain of small droplets or a little line, try a dab of white shoe polish or touch up paint with a small cotton swab.
  • For a large stain the best bet is to brush some shellac over the stained area to prevent any future seepage.

    Ceiling Fans

    Reverse Direction

Save some money on your fuel bill by using your ceiling fan now that you've turned on the furnace for the winter heating season. Run the fans in reverse and set the speed control on LOW....
